UPDATE II by Hans Etzrodt: "Yes, it is Ascari with the slab tank P2. Antonio Ascari just finished the race, seconds before. His mechanic, Giulio Ramponi, is seen on the car's left side (Dark shirt with white Alfa logo.) Alfa Romeo arrived for the Belgian GP with three P2 models, all of them with a slab tank in the back, surmounted by a spare wheel in place of a streamlined tail. The British called it Manx tail." Leif Snellman ads:"They called it "Manx tail" because the cats on the Isle of Man (= Manx cats)
are in fact tailless." Check the cats' tail here. (fanciers.com)
UPDATE I :
Santiago Gomez-Acebo writes: "That is Antonio Ascari just after winning the first Grand Prix of Belgium on the 28th of June 1925 at Spa-Francorchamps. The car is an Alfa Romeo P2. Alfas dominated absolutely this race and of the only two finishers, both were works cars (Campari finished second to his team´s leading driver). Such was the domination by the italian cars that day that the Belgian public started booing them. Vittorio Jano, the chief engineer and designer of the Alfa GP cars, then decided to take out a table in front of their pit and had a relaxed italian lunch served to him...
Ascari died shortly after this victory in a racing accident. His son was the first Ferrari World Champion, Alberto Ascari." Thank you very much Santiago! Based on your information we found a photo of the same scene at Escuderia.com (click & scroll down)
