UPDATE: Renault by Ford ?

An even more precise report now from Frank Harris: 'The car is question is a 1937-1939 Renault 'Vivastella' Sports Saloon, and could be powered by either a 4.1 liter six or a 5.4 liter straight 8. Most likely, it is rear drive with gear shift on the column. All I know about the engine is that it has 28 rated horsepower, so I don't know which engine that would be, the six or the eight, but not the four. It has three speeds forward and one in reverse. The body panels resemble Renault work but also show an influence of the Ford-Werke AG of Cologne, Germany. Some of the Fords made in Cologne during that period used a front wheel drive transmissions along with the drive system, and there could have been an exchange of ideas and engineering there.' Thank you Frank! Clic the pic for a gallery with the history of the logo.(photo editor)
