How about this sleek beauty? No, not an Amilcar again. For a moment it made us think of the forgotten French sportcar of the marque La Perle (check an old Georgano). But no, nothing French here. It's an ... Austin! Who said girls don't share our passion for speed? This extremely special Austin Seven Special was commisioned by the young lady at the wheel (click for a close-up). She was well aware of the 'retro-garde' work of artist Oliver Way and decided to trust him fully when she ordered a Special. The end result is a postmodern view on vintage aero art. With a bodywork in glued plywood strips with alloy detailing and subtle brass fittings plus a final(!) livery of grey primer. Check a few details. 1. rear left check 2. the 'breathing' bucket seat 3. inverted leaf springs and Bugattiesque brake linkage 4. and the full rear view .
The car was already to be seen at Prescott and Beaulieu but this weekend it will finally 'fly' at Donington park during the VSCC's Hundred years of Grand Prix.
UPDATE by Bob Apalsch (Alaska):"Greetings! Where can I find more specific information about this special? Will I have to wait several months to read about it in "CLASSIC and SPORTS CARS"? " Well Bob, here you go, Robin Batchelor put up a few nice pics shot during last weekend. Oliver's own website will go up within weeks from now, we understand.
