Update II (by David Greenlees):"I am able to positively ID the # 1 Pope Hartford racer on the postcard. It was owned and driven by Louis Disbrow a Long Island N.Y. garage owner and racing car builder/ driver. It is a 50hp Pope that was nicknamed the Hummer. With it he won the Alantic-Pablo feature race on the beach at Jacksonville Fla. 4/1/11. He also placed 6th at the Vanderbilt Cup Race
on Nov. 27th at Savannah Ga. and 5th at the 3rd American Grand Prize race
on Nov. 30th. The other Pope #2 is probably based on the 50hp 4cyl. chassis
also. I have not been able to positively ID the other cars other than the
National on the far right."
Update I (Kit Foster): "Although a web search turns up references to racing at Old Orchard Beach as early as 1910, the first race meeting we could document
there occurred September 4-7, 1911."
EARLIER TEXT:Today, during the Concours d'Elegance at Paleis Het Loo we will have sprints for primarily prewar sportscars at the driveway of the palace. It's not very likely that we will see one of the racecars pictured here, but we will report on that. Anyway, if you are not able to come along to check or to have a chat at the PreWarCar courtesy hang-out you may want to chew on the line-up in this early postcard.... (click photo for C.U.). You are welcome to say which cars are at the Start of the 100 Miles of Orchard Beach in Maine. Probably around 1910.
