Suze & Mabel

Who is who? Well Suze is the girl on the left, so that's settled. The other lady was in diguise before she actually revealed her identity. This 1934 Austin Seven saloon was bought from a farmer in 1980 who owned the prewar ‘Mini’ for many years. It was a non runner at the time but otherwise in reasonable shape. The farmer got the Austin in exchange for a horse!! On sanding the topcoat of the bonnet the name “Mabel” appeared . The non running was quickly repaired by turning the ignition 180 degrees, a common fault on Austin Sevens where there is one marking on the flywheel for cylinder 1 and 4. Whenever you take the distributor off it is essential that you trace which cylinder is actually going to fire next. The Seven saw frequent use in the following years untill the body appeared to need big attention. As time to fix that was not available it went to a next enthusiast. Suze luckily stayed… (photo, text, car and girl from the collection of Bas de Voogd/ Dutch PreWar Austin Seven Club).
