On the southern japanese island Kiyushu, there is a town Ibusuki. Here people let burry themselves partially to enjoy the heat of the volcanic sands (volcano.und.nodak.edu). Keith Canouse reports about an other steaming beach location. The 1904 - 2004 Ormond Beach Racing Centennial. He was lucky enough to be there and see cars like this Stanley racing hissing towards the horizon:"The race was approximately one eighth to one quarter mile long with large signs that flashed the speed of the cars as they proceeded down the course and recorded the terminal speeds (edit.: nice expression:'terminal speed'). The high light was the 2 outof 3 grudge match between the Stanley racecar and the 1909 Stanley tourer (click) . The tourer blew its cylinder head off amid much oil, steam and pyrotechnics. I observed the racer Stanley in the mid 60s..mph. " Luckily there was also pretty straightforward machinery like Barney Oldfield's(Coffeedrome.com) Green Dragon... According to Keith: "...the Peerless sounds THROATY." As you all have seen too many photos of that famous racer, here for you all a view in the Dragon's throat. (photos Keith Canouse)
