Remember that spring hit of 1968? For obvious reasons this photo did remind me of that. Bas de Voogd, who sent it, has other associations: "Although the East Coast of the USA is currently covered in snow, the west part of Europe is, although very cold, enjoying a wonderfull sunshine every day. Undoubtedly first signs of spring will soon be on its way. This must also have been the case when Jan Moll took his girlfriend and this MG J2 out on a cold day in the spring of 1934 near Wijk bij Duurstede." (photo from his collection) Most intriguing about the photo is when you look at the enlargement. No not specificly for the girls eyes or the bodywork of the J2. Not the Russia-look fisherman either. No it is the lower part of the windmill at the other side of the river. Could this be the famous windmill painted by Ruydael (Web Gallery of Art) near this location around 1670?
