Secondhand Alfa ( Update III & II & I )

UPdate III by John S. MacKiernan (the former owner): "I have found the Bill Of Sale from when I bought it in 1961, and it states: "Alfa-Romeo, Typo 6C, Gran Turisimo, 1750 Con Compressore, Motor # 101014824, year of manufacture believed to be 1931"
Update II: Kit Foster thought the front bumper came from a 1937 Chevrolet (Specialtyauto.net). (click front photo there) Yet now has some doubts. The trouble is, he can't find an exact match anywhere. It is similar in many ways to Chev, Pontiac and Olds in 1935-7, and also Hudson 1937, Nash 1935 and Chrysler Airflow 1935, but those overriders don't seem to match up to anything in his data bank. The overrriders don't seem to match up to anything in his data bank. Somebody must have one just like it on their car..."
Update: Douwe Heida (NL) expresses doubts about the identity of the car. Looking at the front brake drums he thinks it rather is a 1900 or 8C2300. Coachwork resembles a Castagna.
EARLIER:Back in the sixties a 1750 6C didn't get a two page written history in a full-colour auction catalogue. It was only slightly more intersting thaan an average used car. John MacKiernan sends this photo: "....a 1929 Alfa 1750 that I was driving back in the early 1960's. It was originally a hard-top coupe, but had been "converted" into a drop-head at sometime. The massive front bumper surely did not originate in Milan. It went fiercely like the wind, but not quietly." What we like about the shot is of course that bumper, making it a really vintage fifties/sixties document. Please take also note of the little rock in front of the left front wheel preventing the 1750 to take off 'fiercly' without driver. Anybody out there who remembers this particular car? And more important... anybody out there (except for Kit Foster) who can recognise non-Milan front bumper (click). Maybe it is from this ex-plating man bumper collection. Enjoy your Tuesday ;-)
