Rallying an MG SA through in the Appenines.

Again no entree for the Mille Miglia? No worries, plenty alternatives in the same splendid scenery... and at a fraction of the costs. Bart Kleijn sent us a few nice photos of the rally he organises every year in June, the Via Flaminia Tour. This year the winner was an MG SA Tickford 1936 run by the Danish Lund Ovesen crew. In seven days the Tour would stretch over some 1800 km, going around the Gran Sasso (map) and back to Verona. The Tour is all about navigation skills and not about speed as proved by the winning car. That some extra spirit is needed when driving a pre-war car through the curvy roads of the Apennines is clear. Mr. Lund Ovesen had to fix the rear axle every hundred or so kilometres. The rear axle is fixed in such a way that it can slide slightly to either side of the car. Under normal conditions this needs to be done with every oil change. Under rally conditions this needs to be done at every café where Mrs. Lund Ovesen wants to drink coffee. Want to learn more about this summer's rally? Be sure to contact Bart Kleijn through the above website.
