Mastering the CarterCar

Who said young people don't see the fun of driving old cars? Maybe it's more that the older stick so much to their toys that they don't let the youngsters at the wheel....! Let's not forget that The World (and what's on it) is not our property. We just borrow it from the next generation. Ruud de Pater learned to love the Model A; his father taught him. But young men want more than what their father had in mind. So one day -not so long ago- Ruud bought this evil chunk of metal. This fourwheeled sin is 1,3 tons of 1914 Cartercar, the Model 7 . A digit instead of the letter A ???, must hsave been the first thought of father the Pater. Probably by far the biggest difference is the interesting variable gearchange. Ruud tried to explain me the essence of this subtile mechanism several times, but the one point he got accross is that you have to start learning to drive all over again and that the learning proces is best described as 'Motoring Fun'. For insiders the nice deep dashboard design will bring memories. More of you will nodd with 'oh yes' at the full sight of the friendly monster. We will look out for more 'driving reports' of odd machinery by the GTI-generation. Please send with photos to [email protected]. (photos Ruud de Pater & friends)
