Otto Rasso from Germany wrote to us: “Only a minute from my place in Bavaria, there is a 1936 Cadillac Roadster with rumble seat sitting in an open barn since 14 years. The car came from Rumania and it is said that it belonged to King Karl of Rumania (it had a KM speedo, its now gone). The car was driven from Rumania to Bavaria 700kms, has a Russian 4-cyl. engine, gearbox and rear axle. About 16 years ago I personally drove the car around the bloc, because I wanted to buy it. The seller wanted too much money so he still owns it and keeps it in that open barn. Isn't that a shame?" (photos & text Otto Rasso)
UPDATE by Radu Comsa (Romania):"I have been a co-pilot on that exact car in Sinaia 1987, while i was 16 y.o.
It was a regular participant to all the Romanian classic car events in the '80's
The car was in the same colors (the same paint) and had already from the '70's the engine/gearbox/rear axle changed with an ARO (early Aro's , the IMS, were Russian licensed). But i think the engine was a Romanian diesel.
Rumour at that time was the car belonged to the fleet of the Bucharest Royal Palace, though somewhat unlikely for an open coachwork. But it's not a roadster as it had 7 full places - 5 + 2 places in the rumble seat; couldn't figure what exact model is in the Standard Catalog. I am happy to see it still exist as it dissapeared from Bucharest in the early '90's ..."
