Keep an eye on the oil...

Dashboards aren't what they used to be. The only thing that is bearing some resemblance with modern equipment is the clock. And maybe the big switches look familiar when you frequently visit top hotels. The rest of the visible machinery is packed away and automated nowadays. If it fails you get a big red warning led with OIL written on it. In those days you just had to know how much oil each bearing needed.
