Holy Jeanne. (UPDATE)

Wayne Mikosz writes:"A last bit of information on the Joan of Arc ornament. Bill Williams' "Motoring Mascots of the World", (Motorbooks International, 1979) shows this piece on page 183 and it is decribed as a 1930's work. Also indicates that the "crest of Orleans town" is on versa. Manufacturer unknown but indicates this is an "accessory item". Thanks Wayne!

EARLIER TEXT:You must have a sick mind to make a sculpture of a lady who died as a martyrin the flames aged 18. And knowing this put her mascotte on top of a radiator with nearly cooking water! This of course must be Jeanne d'Arc, the fearless French farmer girl soldier who played a decisive role in the 100 year British-French war. 3o May 1431 she was burnt publicly by the British at the the Old Market / Vieux Marché (his.nicolas.free.fr)in Rouen. After a 7 year proces which started in 1449 she was canonised by the Pope nearly half a millenium later, in 1920. So, without any tangible proof, we dare to say that this mascotte was made as a souvenir for this final ecclesiatical gesture of rehabilitation. Vintage: 1920-1925.
