For superfast pit stops.

Michael Ware writes: "Here is an object that ought to be in a museum, but what is it? The picture was sent by Keith Womersley of East Yorkshire (UK). It is obviously a tyre inflator, used by its last owner, a farmer, for spraying lime wash in his cattle sheds. This farmer owned a vintage car or two and was pretty sure that it was originally used in a race track situation where quick inflation was essential. This could also apply to a roadside garage, but we have never seen one before. Keith describes it “..as being well constructed with four pistons and is two man operated (click) . The pressure gauge reads to 150 (psi), so it was obviously capable of inflating high pressure beaded edge tyres”. If you ever worked with it or have seen in racing or other roadside practice please write to Michael Ware. (click photo for more detail; courtesy MotorMuseums.org)
