Fiat or something else?

Letters to the editor

A not-so-typical wedding photo was sent to us by Bentley Boy Bert Degenaar. Here we see Dutch Jonkvrouwe Guileamette Raymondine Ermengarde Elisabeth de Girard de Mielet van Coehoorn on the day she married Samuel Hendrik Manger Cats, it was 8 April 1907. A very nice photo, but what is the car? Is this a Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino, or F.I.A.T.?

Indeed the car seems to be a Fiat, and because of the absence of chain drive and the seemingly lowered rear part of the chassis it must be a Brevetti of around 1906. This lady owned another car, of which photos can be found (together with this one) on the site of the Brabant Historic Information Centre (B.H.I.C.). At first glance the cars seem to be identical, but this other car clearly differs in some essential details like the number of wheel bolts and the shape of the radiator filler assembly. Also the bonnet of the other car is slightly longer. I'd say it's also a Brevetti, but slightly younger (1907 or 1908). The similarity of the bodies give the impression that the landaulet body has been re-used, together with some of the accessories like front and side lights.
