An American in Paris.

A unique barnfind is this 1911 Amplex Model H with boattail Spider coachwork. The engine - a mighty 4 cylinder 6 L - most probably is a two stroke. Can you imagine what kind of prehistoric jungle-cry the four pot will produce? The ultra rare -maybe even last surviving Amplex - will be presented at the coming Rétromobile by Swiss dealer Christoph Grohe, who has a fine taste for untouched cars. You may well remember last years 1901 Peugeot Spider. Only few of us will remember the make Amplex as coming from Mishawaka, Indiana. For those of you who are not familiar with Indian language it won't be simple to remember more than 5 minutes the difference with Chikasha, Oklahoma... where the yearly PreWar Swap Meet is taking place (try to reproduce both names 5 minutes after you have logged out ;-) . Wouldn't it be great to bring it there, then drive to where it came from and then straight to the green, green grass of Pebble Beach ;-) The first steps to prepare for the journey have been done. See for the first results (click). (photos courtesy Christoph Grohe; more details of the car on his website (click) ).

(Many thanks also to Keith Canouse who tipped us about this car.)
