Company History
The story of the Crossley motor car brand began in 1867, when brothers Francis and William Crossley took over an existing business in Manchester. Initially, the company primarily manufactured machinery for the textile industry.
In 1903, the Crossley brothers built their first car and gradually began to focus more on the automotive industry.
In 1914, the brand played an important role in the war effort. Crossley supplied vehicles to military and other government services, including the Royal Flying Corps.
After the war, the company focused on luxury cars and smaller models. During the 1930s, England faced a severe economic crisis, and Crossley was forced to produce smaller cars as well. This led to the development of the Crossley 10 HP Torquay.
Approximately 2,000 Torquay models were built during this period. Compared with manufacturers such as Austin and Morris, this was a relatively small production run. To the best of our knowledge, only 14 examples are currently known to survive.

The History of This Particular Car
The history of this car is known in almost complete detail.
Its story begins in 1934, when the car was given to Anne Bannister, the wife of Sir Roger Bannister. At the time, he was a world-famous middle-distance runner and became the first athlete to run a mile in under four minutes. In recognition of his achievements, Roger Bannister was later knighted.
The car remained in the possession of the Bannister family until 1945. It was then sold and passed through the hands of eight different owners between 1945 and 1970.
The last owner dismantled the car with the intention of restoring it, but never progressed beyond taking it apart.
In 1975, the Crossley was sold to the Netherlands, where it has remained in the same family for more than 50 years.
During this time, the car was fully restored. Among other work, the engine and gearbox were overhauled. All invoices documenting this work are available.
As can be seen, the car is in beautiful condition and has been carefully preserved by its owners over the years.
The Crossley starts, drives and changes gear well, and all of its systems function as they should.
