The Lincoln Continental began life as a one-off personal automobile commissioned by Edsel Ford. Styled by Ford designer Bob Gregorie on the Lincoln-Zephyr V-12 chassis, the elegant prototype was delivered to Ford on 1 March 1939 and immediately drew widespread admiration for its clean, European-inspired lines. The overwhelmingly positive response prompted Lincoln to place the Continental into production for 1940, creating one of the most celebrated and exclusive American automobiles of the pre-war era.

The 1941 Continental Cabriolet carried a substantial factory price of $2,840. Compared with the standard Lincoln-Zephyr, the Continental rode three inches lower and featured a hood stretched seven inches longer, giving it a sleek, sporting profile while retaining Lincoln's distinctive split V-shaped grille. Luxuriously appointed throughout, it featured gold-finished interior hardware and trim, while power came from Lincoln's refined 292-cubic-inch V-12 equipped with polished aluminum cylinder heads and intake manifolds. With production limited to just 400 Continental Cabriolets for 1941, the model remains among the most coveted American luxury automobiles of its era.

This Continental Cabriolet was completed on 18 June 1941 and originally finished in black with a tan convertible top over a red leather interior, according to a copy of its original build record from The Henry Ford. Factory equipment included a heater, radio, dual outside mirrors, whitewall Firestone tires, an oil-bath air cleaner, and the desirable two-speed Columbia overdrive for relaxed high-speed touring.

Today, the Continental is attractively presented in metallic grey over a blue leather interior beneath a black convertible top. The sophisticated color combination complements the model’s timeless design, while the restored presentation highlights the elegance that has made the Continental one of America's enduring automotive icons.

Recognized by the Classic Car Club of America as a Full Classic, the 1941 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet combines landmark styling, V-12 performance, and limited production, making it one of the most desirable open American automobiles of the Classic Era.
