1935 Alvis Speed 25 Sports Special - a lovely Special with the 3½-litre Speed 25 engine, which has just been rebuilt!

Some specials look better than others and this one looks just great! Built around 30 years ago for collector Dick van Dyck, it was acquired some 20 years ago by its current caretaker, the former chairman of the Dutch Vintage Sports Car Club (DVSCC).

Built on a lightweight Silver Eagle chassis, it is fitted with the desirable 3½-Litre Speed 25 engine, which has just been rebuilt at a cost of over €40,000.

According to the history file this car was built in the 1980’s in England. On a reconditioned Silver Eagle chassis a well made pointed tail sporting body was fabricated. Even now after some 40 years of age this body is in very good condition. On file are some pictures of the car racing at Silverstone and at the Oldtimer Grandprix in Germany.

A previous owner was a Mr Wessel von Loringhoven from 1989 who kept it until 1999 when the car was sold to a Mr Dick van Dyk. Mr van Dyk had quite a collection which was auctioned in 2005 and then the current Dutch owner bought it. In the past 20 years the car has always been maintained at pre-war car specialist Ab va Egmond. Very recent the car had a full engine rebuilt with metal work done at Eras in Holland. As with all Alvis Speed models the synchronized 4 speed gearbox is very easy to use.
