1912 Winton Model 17C Touring
Serial Number 11944
This is a great example of a 1912 Winton Model 17C Touring. It is powered by its six-cylinder, 457CID/48 horsepower engine that is powerful, well-balanced and smooth. A very impressive, large car with its 130" wheelbase. It is in excellent, restored condition that was undoubtedly a fine original car. It displays several unique and often discarded Winton features, including the dash fuel system and air powered self-starting system.
The original skinned coach work is in excellent and original condition. The body has all the trademark Winton details such as the combination vents/cowl lights along with the distinctive Winton wood-framed windshield. Winton's skinned wood bodies were known for their light weight – always a design priority of the Winton Six. The upholstery is expertly done and authentic. The brass shows very well and the rear trunk holds ample touring provisions. The gauges and controls are correct. The dual spare tires include a circular trunk.
This Winton was purchased as a partnership in the 1980s by the well-known Michigan brass car collectors of Jack Skaff and Dick Shaw. Shaw purchased Jack's share in 2004.
Today, this 1912 Winton remains in excellent condition. While it is an older restoration, the car has been well maintained and it has been upgraded during the ownerships. For touring, the car has been fitted with a Henshal distributor, a later carburetor, 12-volt system and an upgraded starter assembly. It runs well and the car shifts easily as one would expect from a Winton. There are tonneau covers for the folded top and for the front and rear seats. The car has been well traveled on tours to include Glidden, HCCA as well as the VMCCA Gas and Brass tours. Being a 1912, it is acceptable for all of the brass events.
Included with the car has a reproduction aluminum crank case and transmission case, in case you may ever need one. Also included is a book of photos of the restoration.
A great and properly equipped car for long tours. A true touring go-er.
Reasonably priced at 225,000.00 USD but will consider a close offer. The car is located near Detroit, Michigan.
