With less than three weeks to go until the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, the next few weeks are all about the veteran car. And as the run is celebrating the 120th anniversary of the Ladies' Automobile Club, we thought it appropriate to mention the importance of ladies in our classic car world.
The very appropriate photo above was taken during the last Rallye des Ancêtres in France, and shows Mrs. PreWarCar, Morris Klein-Laarman, with her daughters and a friend in the big Mors, and behind her Maria-Anne, the enthusiastic curator of the Compiegne Automobile Museum on a small De Dion-Bouton vis-à-vis.
In the coming weeks, we will be looking at the cars of the past alongside the enthusiasts of the present. We met Elinor Boothman as she cranked a 1902 Napier, with which she will take part in this year's Veteran Car Run. We asked her to write down her views on the rôle of women in the old car world, which we will publish next week.
Later, we will publish the interview conducted by the Royal Automobile Club with the lovely Kelsie Whittemore, who drives a 1904 Peugeot. We will also publish the full list of participants in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run and speak to a photographer about how he looks at the event and what his favourite photographs are from past years. Also, we have gone through the catalogues of both Bonhams and RM Sotheby's, now that both auction houses are fielding a several pre-1905 cars.
There's plenty to look forward to over the next three weeks.
