Take a good hard look at this engine(click main pic for better view) and then it will not be difficult to guess whose design this is. But, and here comes a big but, our quiz is not that simple! This American engine –known for its smoothness and refinement- was tested by a major German automobile manufacturer in 1909. They liked it and procured a licence to manufacture it for an initial period of ten years. Their first model came out in mid-1910 and was shown at the Paris Motor Show. Series production began in early 1911 and remained in production until 1924. One is shown here as a phaeton, built from 1916-1924, and the only thing we have disguised are the logos on the pointed radiator! Two other four-cylinder models were in production from 1913 until 1915. To win the infamous PreWarCar T-shirt tells us who designed the engine; which manufacturer procured the licence and, if possible, the models that were equipped with this engine.
