What is it? Quiz #485

Is this a car or is it a plane? A well-known quote, based on Superman. It definitely is not Superman but what is it? Do you recognize this car? Is it a one-off, special or a very original car?

We hope you know what it is. Please send us your findings and ideas, do this before Monday evening with a maximum of 100 words and most importantly, give us your source so we can check them!

See next week if you are the winner and if you receive the full 5 points in the six-month competition, sponsored by Hans Compter Rare Cars.

This very distinctive cabriolet is a Bignan 11CV from 1924 with an one off aluminum aerodynamic body designed by Paul Forostovsky Jr. The Rumpler influenced aerodynamics (and lighter weight) seemed to have worked as the top speed of the 2 litre car increased from 56mph with the standard body to 71mph.
Paul Forostovsky Jr. was a Russian born car body designer with several U.S patents for car body styles and construction. A well traveled man, he was a patent holder for Coachbuilders 'Carrosserie Gaston Grümmer' in France, spending time in Norway, and also the USA.

This is a 1924 Bignan 11 HP with bodywork created by Paul Forostovsky Jr. He had a patent for this kind of automobile body applied in the USA in 1922, the patent #1556778 was granted in October 1925. The main claim was to build a low and sleek body without losing headroom or legroom for the passengers. That was accomplished by placing floor members several inches below the longitudinal beams supporting the body. Forostovsky was a Russian citizen residing in Baltimore, NY.
