This car with three beautiful ladies is of a well-known make, both in France as well as England. Twin sister cars were regular competitors in the London-Brighton run, but checking the starting list I noticed they are absent this year. However, 6 of her sisters of a different model, partly of slightly younger age are present. The three ladies in the car were well-known in their days, but as you may have noticed I have removed their last names. The questions are the following:
1. What is the make of the car and the year of production?
2. What are the type and model?
3, What are the last names of the ladies in the car and why where they famous?
4. And finally: where is Miss Cissie Roberts?
Each of the first three questions answered correctly will be rewarded with 1 point. The most original answer to the fourth question will be rewarded with 1 point too. And of course, the winner will gain the full 5 points. So on your marks, ready and go!
Do not use more than 100 words and be sure to send in your answers before Monday 6th to collect your points for the six-month challenge!
The pictured Gladiator 12hp four-seater rear-entrance tonneau was one of the models launched in 1901 by the Société Clément-Gladiator. The car was designed by Marius Barbarou, and equipped with a 1703cc twin-cylinder Aster engine. A similar one-cylinder 6.5hp model can be distinguished by its shorter bonnet.
Marie Studholme, Ethel Sydney and Violet Lloyd were celebrated actresses in musical comedies that played at the Gaiety Theatre, London. In 1902 they performed together in ‘The Toreador’.
For tracing Cissie (Cissy?), try Twitter (@RobertsCissy). She may be behind the wheel of a vehicle that will not be accepted into a veteran car run.
