What happens after you successfully buy or sell something at PreWarCar.com?

In 2013 Mr Steeve Bernaud bought a 1924 Salmson Grand Sport on PreWarCar.com. But as he did not really like the look of the body, he decided to build a new one himself. About the restoration of the car, he made a wonderful video, which is definitely worth watching. The video can be seen here.

In a nutshell, he also tells us about this restoration project:

The car is an absolutely original 1924 Salmson Grand Sport with a rebuilt body. The car had only 3 owners in 90 years! In 2013 I bought the Salmson on PreWarCar.com. The Salmson used to have a fantastic and very esthetic mechanic base and a horrible body. So my idea was to combine a nice chassis with a nice body.

In 2013 I saw a very nice drawing from Henri Labourdette. With some very special and elegant "butterfly" wings based on top of the chassis, but going down after the wheel. So I have used these drawings to create a complete Labourdette body. I have made a 3D scan of the mechanics, an ergonomic study and then I did a 3D drawing of the body. From this, I did the wood structure, realised by a 3D tool.

Then I have built a full-scale wood model of the body. On it, we spent one year to create the aluminium part. Then we have fixed the aluminium on the wood structure (in the South of France). After this operation, the car went to Italy for finishing, painting, and the leather.

Every single detail was studied by a computer, dimension of rivets, opening, windscreen etc...

Steeve's design and the work of his coachbuilder is superb. Don't worry the "old" body, which wasn't an original, has been "recycled" on my 1926 GS. Not the prettiest body shape, but that didn't seem to slow it down at Montlhery!

Thanks for putting the record straight Martin. The "ugly" body looks okay, and it's good to hear that it's been recycled! I must add that the new body is a masterpiece. Well done Steeve.

The original body was "ugly". Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Was it the original body?

The Salmson work has been executed to a very high degree, and I believe the attention to detail is impeccable.
Also the photography is superb, obviously the owner has his finger on the details and has high ideals.
A beautifully researched and managed project.

Was the original body not useable ? A car is only original once. Do computers & old cars belong together ?

Hello Colin !
You can see most of the mecanic on the movie. The car have a bottle chassis, with regular double camshaft engine, and 3 speed gear box.
