Weird Wednesday: Slippin’ and Slidin’ (UPDATE: about chopping up Adelphi's))

The WinterRaid that took place last week consisted of three days driving through Italian and Swiss mountains. Negotiating the mountain passes is tough work, but the fun part came last Saturday at the finish in Lenzerheide in the Swiss Mountains. The last task the participants had to perform was to drive as fast as possible around the ice track, cheered on by the many spectators. Several pre-war cars took part, among them the 1934 Lagonda M35 Rapide Le Mans shown above and a 1936 Riley Speed Adelphi. But we also liked this pre-war looking special, based on a Jaguar XK150! Update by Graham Allen: "Given the continued problems with viable Riley saloons being chopped up to make specials maybe we should use the correct term of Special for the car mentioned, as I understand all Adelphis were saloons." (Editor: basically you are right, but in many or most cases the 'chopping up' is applied to cars which are beyond repair. In the name giving of this Special at least the source has been honoured. We would suggest Riley 'Adelphi' Special)
