Wanted: body by Gläser

Last weekend saw the first meeting of a group of prewar cars that had one thing in common: their body was built by Gläser. The company of Gläser in Dresden, Germany was one of the better German coachbuilders. Founded in 1864, they started with producing horse-drawn coaches, but switched to building automobile bodies in the early 1900’s. It was during the 1930s that they became well-known for their small series of cabriolet bodies fitted on chassis ranging from Audi (click), Bugatti, Horch, Maybach (click), Opel, Steyr to Wanderer. After the company was nationalized they built bodywork for IFA and Wartburg. The meeting was held at the Schloss Moritzburg near Dresden and around fifty cars of many different makes attended. But there must be many more… So, if you own a car with bodywork by Gläser you might want to join the forum on the Gläser website (in German). They would love to hear from you.
