The De Dion Bouton Club's motor-tricycle racing team, Team Jarrott, takes pride of place as the oldest of all motor racing on the planet. Dating from Great Britain's very first motor race - on these machines in November 1897 - and named after the pioneer English racer Charles Jarrott, who organised and took part in these British races, the team pays tribute to those heroic days by once again taking this earliest form of motor racing to tracks around the UK.
The motor-tricycles that were used were mostly De Dion Bouton. Built in Paris in the late 1890s by a partnership between the aristocrat count De Dion and mechanic Georges Bouton, they became a great success with both men and women.
It is still a make that gets a lot of enthusiasm from car collectors and the crowd nowadays. In the video clip above, you can see avid collector and De Dion Bouton enthusiast Nicholas Pellett describe the story of this make and its motor-tricycle.
