The Studebaker Signs Mystery (See Update)
Mario Laguna from Luxemburg sends us a picture from the album of an elderly aunt. According to the aunts recollections this photograph was taken by her then young husband during a trip with friends somewhere between Barcelona and Sitges. She knows nothing of the car or its owner, her late husband just took the photo as he thought it would be a good souvenir. Mario guesses it's a 1922 Studebaker Light Six with some body modifications. Is he correct? And what is the sign writing on the side all about? Since 1959 this same route is also used for the Sitges-Rallye, perhaps there have been earlier events?

On the right I read Studebaker, however the word on the left could be Studebaker too! And Barone is possible, but Barcelona as well ...

Dear Prewarcar editor (and Dear Michael),
Thank you very much for using my Studebaker story. In fact, the photo belongs to a friend (it was given to him by his aunt when her husband departed and she found some old photos and letters).
Since I tell to Michael, we have managed to know more about the car's owner, but little about the car itself.
The photo was taken in the '20s, sorry it is not very accurate about the time, but we now the place: in Spanish "las cuestas del Garraf" (Garraf hills, we could say in English), between Barcelona and Sitges.
By looking between the gentleman's legs (in the middle), we read "BARO..". This leads us to José Mario Barone, who achieved the first travel by land from Rio de Janeiro to New York in 1929, at the wheel of a 1922 Studebaker. Could it be the same car? I doubt it, but who knows.
As JM Barone's daughter is a reader of this Web site, I shall be happy if she has learned something new about his father by reading this message.
