The Pub Taxi Mystery (update: 1903 White, Model C)

Luke Collison: "This photo was recently found. It is believed to be the first taxi in Aberyswyth Cardiganshire in about 1915. Local records show 29EJ is registered as a 1917 Overlander(?) 12 HP Towing model 75 Blue 4 seater, but I am not convinced this is accurate. Could it even be a steam car given the very square front and bonnet? My great grandparents are in the photo and I believe it is outside the Black Lion Pub in Llanbadarn near Aberytwyth (here shown more recently). Really grateful for any help. "

Willys-Overland and Crossley set up a joint venture in UK to import, manufacture and sell cars based on the Overland 4.
Unfortunately not until 1919 so doesn't quite fit with the dates quoted.

I say the entry for 29EJ should read Overland Tourer 4 seater Model 75 Colour Blue produce in 1916 (USA) they were 25HP not 12HP the model 75B was a 30HP. I agree with others a White steamer in photo.

My 1904 Serpollet steamer running on paraffine was used for daily transport during more than two years in the period 1943-1944 due to non availibility of gasoline in the UK. Perhaps the same situation occurred during WW1 in the UK. The White was then only a dozen years old!

No doubt at all, it is a White steamer,a 10hp,the model coming out in 1903,. so with the registration number could be a 1903/4 car

The registration '29 EJ' would not have been issued before about 1958 but it could be EJ 29.
There was an American manufacturer calling their cars 'Overland' rather than Overlander.

Steam car indeed. It looks like a 1903 White Model C. The registration looks like CJ29, which would be a Hereford number issued during 1904, not a million miles from Aberystwyth.

Indeed a steamer, a 1903-1904 White. I doubt however if this car would still have been in use in 1915. On the other hand, the driver doesn't look too young either, so maybe he decided to use the car till the bitter end (of one of them).

Looks like a circa 1904 White steam car. The plate looks to read EJ29 (or CJ29?) and not 29EJ.
