"The picture depicts my father and his friend in front of an American car"

Two mischievous little boys in front of a PreWarCar. This cheerful photograph was sent in by one of our readers, Bruno Estibals. He wrote to us "The picture depicts my father and his friend in front of an American car, but which one?" We think the car is a Buick. But can anyone tell us more about the specific car we see here? From what year do you guys think the Buick is?

Please comment below. Your help will be appreciated!

Kit is correct in my opinion. It is a 1935 Chrysler Airstream model. Great picture.

Yes, Kit Foster and others are correct with 1935 Chrysler Airstream.

Donald Risen is very nearly correct. The car is a 1935 Chrysler Airstream, the "conventional" model introduced to sell alongside the more aerodynamic Airflow. I'm not sure what to make of the contraption on the roof, however.

Donald E. Risen is the closest of the answers above. This is a 1935 Chrysler Airstream. Detail photos are below. The "V" shaped hood ornament (when looking at the front of the car) in combination with the chrome trim along the side of the radiator and the striped bumpers and bumper guards set this model off from the other suggestions. The side mounted spare tires were optional on this model. Is that a boat on the roof?

It is a 1935 Chrysler Airstream and most probably, with the angular top body quarters, a convertible coupe.
But what is on top of the car. A home made hardtop or the boys swimmingpool, or both?

The grille and the shape of the front bumper points to Reo Flying Cloud 1936.That was the last model year for Reo passenger cars.

Maybe a mid-thirties Plymouth.

Doesn't look like any Buick I ever saw. Thinking maybe mid-1930s Reo.
