The Jolly Miss Jolivet (UPDATE: Madame Jolivet!)

We have a weakness for racing girls. And especially when they start as early as Miss Jolivet. She must have been one of the first to take up racing. On this photograph she’s about to take part in the 1902 Deauville races with her 2½ Horsepower G. Pecourt motor-cycle. We wonder what she did with her hat? This photo is part of a small series that will be offered by Bonhams during their upcoming auction at Retromobile in Paris. This photograph can be found at lot number 7 in their online catalogue. But if you prefer automobiles to motorcycles, we suggest you start drooling over a series of magnificent Hispano-Suiza’s that will be auctioned with lots 225 and 237 through 240. And this Bugatti will be there too, but be prepared for some extensive restoration work. (photo courtesy Bonhams)

Update by Malcolm Jeal who spoils our fantasizing about 'Miss Jolivet': “She was actually Madame! She and her husband were members of the Pécourt motorcycle racing team and competed in 1902 not only at Deauville but also at the Château-Thierry and Gaillon hill climbs, and the Dourdan speed trials. Incidentally, the 'bikes were fitted with Z L (or Zedel) motors.”
