The Electro Talbot Mystery (Upd. LHD Lancia Lambda - Richard Talbot Special)

Fred Korthals from Holland came up with these photos of a sports car and asks our help in identifying it. This should be easy as on the back of the photo is written “Talbot”, but -and here comes the big but- it also says it’s an “Electro Talbot”, which is also sign-written on the car itself! Does this mean the car was electric powered? As far as we know Talbot never produced an electrically-powered vehicle. Could this be a home-made special, as the radiator grille looks very Lancia-ish? On the back of the photo is also a stamp of Garage “Autosport” on the Lassustraat 1-3 in Amsterdam. After World War II this used to be the address of the Dutch Salmson importer. Could there be a connection here? Please help us solve this electrifying mystery (btw the car in the background looks to be a ca. 1939 DKW)

The comment that these headlights are not 8th series is often heard from the United Kingdom but is incorrect. These headlights were fitted throughout 1928 and were replaced sometime in 1929 by Bosch headlights with a smaller nickel rim.

They high waist line and the LHD (first offered in 1928) together with the alternate body fitted lean toward a Serie' 8 Lancia Lambda I agree. A few things that get my interest: Headlights: incorrect for 8 Serie' however 10 louvres in the famous triangular vent mean that the body at least (chassis) is certainly 8th.
As for the rest of it who knows? I recently caught up with a lady that remembers a coal burner attached to the back of her Dad's Lambda (as was not uncommon during the war years) so an air cooled powerplant...very possible.

Not only is it clearly Lambda based, but interestingly the scuttle area appears to have been converted to a second bonnet a la Hispano suiza?

This is really interesting as I have a picture of the same car (a special) when it was clearly a Lancia Lambda, 8th series most likely, with an exhaust pipe coming out of the engine bay. The car then had the provincial numberplate H 53x2. The x could be an 8 or a 2. Not clear. I received this picture from Mr. Ab Sijthoff (one time owner of Saoutchik) saying the two ladies in the picture were his friends (one of them his wife?)So it looks as if someone converted the car to an electric vehicle??

The car was probably built by the “Richard Talbot Spezialfabrik für Elektro-Fahrzeuge”, an electric motor manufacturer from Berlin, specialized in electric vehicle conversion of light German truck chassis, such as Borgward, Ostner and Framo (ca. 1936-1945).

Don't know about the Talbot, but the one in the background is definitely a DKW F8 :-)

Lancia Lambda, possibly a Casaro body about 1927. . . and very much customized as well. hard to speculate if it was refitted with electric power, so far, we only know what was written on the picture.

Looks like a Lambda 7th series Tipo Da Corsa 219 by Casaro built for the Mille Miglia. Appears to be converted to air cooled (aero engine?) as no radiator core and lots of louvers. Also left drive maybe an eight series or a conversion.

No doubt it´s Lancia Lambda based, but it's left hand drive, never seen a LHD Lambda, and has what looks like late 30's Ford banjo steering wheel.

Well, it is a Lancia Lambda: no visible front axle, look at the louvers on the vertical side of the bonnet, the mudguards are also standard Lambda, complete with the small covered hole to get access to the sliding pillar front suspension. The body has possibly been improved in the thirties for a more modern look (including the presumably false radiator grille). Nice car!

This car looks like a modified 7th Series Lancia Lambda with what might be a Casaro body. The Augusta style grille is an add on and the original radiator is missing?

The front suspension is very visible and clearly Lambda. Front wings Lambda. Bonnet side-louvres also very Lancia. So, Lambda based special?

The Chassis and parts of the body must be Lancia. You see the near the left Frontlamp the openig for the for the front
Suspencion(Frotaxle). Als o the loovers at the Body seems Lancia Lambda.
Interesting is that tere is no Radiator, you can see throu the mask and loovers at the Left Hood.
So it coud be fitted with an electric engine.

There is a trainbuilder in Aachen (D) that is called Talbot too. They build several electrotrucks during WW2. Maybe it's something made by them?

From the main photo, it appears that there is no radiator core behind the grill as there is light comming through from behind on the hoods left side? May well be electric?
