The Crown Jewels of The Bonhams Zoute Sale

The Crown Jewels we are talking about are two exclusive models which will be auctioned by Bonhams on the 5th of October 2018.

1936 Bentley 4¼-Litre Cabriolet

The first model is a sporty but luxurious 1936 Bentley 4¼-Litre Cabriolet. The car was delivered new to the Paris-based Greek shipping magnate and racing driver, André Embiricos. He chooses for an exclusive coachwork creation by Jean Antem of Courbevoie. You regularly see quality marque pre-war cars with Antem-bodies (recognisable by the low windscreens and fine details in the design) nowadays during the prestigious Concours d'Élégances.

Developed from the preceding fine 3 ½ Litre model, the upgraded and more powerful “silent” 4 ¼ Litre Bentley has chassis (no. B260GA). It is one of the 1,234 4¼-Litre models built. The ownership history of the car is well documented and tells us the Bentley was exported to the USA in April 1940. Charles Morse who acquired the Bentley in 2004 had the car restored to concourse standard by the well-known Bentley and Rolls-Royce specialist Jeff McDonald from Oregon.

The unique coachwork and high over-all performance make this 4 ¼ Litre Bentley perfect for comfortably long distance touring. The car is estimated between € 375,000 and € 425,000.

1930 Derby K4 1.8-Litre Course

The second model is a 1930 Derby K4 1.8-Litre Course estimated at a much lower price. Namely between € 115,000 and € 135,000. But this price definitely does not indicate a less interesting car, in contrary.

The rare Derby K4 offered here has a 1.8-litre six-cylinder CIME engine (no. 20865) and four-speed gearbox. This two-seater sports car has a short chassis (no. 124) with a wheelbase of only 2.70 metres. Like many other Derby model, this K4 is believed to have been delivered new to Italy. It spent most of its life there before the car was sold to France in 2015. Where it resides today.

The Derby is in a good condition and over the years the car has been partly restored. But shows lovely patina, which we absolutely love.
