The Blue Mountains Gearbox Mystery (UPDATE III: Brown & Lipe / Mercer or REO? )

You know the feeling.. you’ve got all kinds of stuff lying around in your garage and don’t even know what it is. Suddenly you become interested and say to yourself: “What the heck, let’s ask the boys at PreWarCar. They must know.” Actually we don’t, but luckily you, our reader do. Although we think this gearbox is a tough one. It’s owned by Tony Noonan from the Blue Mountains in Australia who has been moving it around for more than twenty years. He thinks its date is approximate 1910-12 and that it comes from a truck or large veteran touring car. Unfortunately there are no marks or embossed/stamped numbers on the gearbox. Nor can he find a makers name. So we’ll have to make do with the photos of the bottom (click main pic) and the top. Perhaps the gear lever or distinctive mounting bracket might ring a bell? Do tell us what you know!

I'm pretty sure that it is a Brown and Lipe as seen in Mercer raceabouts and other cars.
