An Autovia Prototype Mystery? (update: Brough Superior?)

Tony Clark, who runs the website motoringart, recently obtained an original drawing of a saloon he didn’t recognize. And neither do we. At first guess it looks like the rare Autovia (click main pic), but there are also some arguments against it. First, the drawing was made by artist Will Nickels (1902-1977) and published in The Motor on the 3rd October 1934. This is two years before Autovia started production in 1936, with some prototypes already being tested in 1935. And second, all of them were powered by the Riley V8. This drawing looks to be a straight six. Could this be a prototype Autovia? Perhaps someone can check that particular copy of The Motor (established 1903) and tell us what it is?

Bentley Corniche 1939 with VanVooren body. Almost the same car seen with registration plate GRA-270 in a BIG Bentley book

Looks like it.
But what about the clumsy exhaust side ( I know this not the right word)of the engine ?

Jaap likes to refer to the exhaust manifold.

Definitely a Hotchkiss radiator surround and the rest is artistic merit!

There was no edition of The Motor on 3 Oct 1934! There was one on the 2nd, and I have looked through that without finding the picture. I can check the VSCC library again if there is better information.

Jaap, the Windmill is typical of a British Post-mill !
The steps observable, being the (Manual) moving system, for the Mill.
We British did buy French cars, and it does look a lot like a Delahaye 135, considering the Artistic licence probably involved.

Could it be French? Darracq or Delahaye possibly.
French prestige cars were often right hand drive in this period.

I don't think this is a drawing of an Autovia, even if a six cylinder-powered prototype. There's is a single rocker cover rather than the twin cover arrangement for all pre BMC Rileys, be they four or six cylinder motors. Furthermore, the drawing seems to indicate a torsion bar independent front suspension. The Autovia retained the conventional front beam axle supported by semi-elliptic springs.
