Take a risqué ride in a vintage Renault

The internet is a remarkable place when it comes to old photographs. It can be very cruel to professional snappers or copyright holders who sometimes see their intellectual property treated as if it were public property. On the other hand, it can be a gold mine for just about any kind of interest, not least pre-war cars.

Don’t you find things tend to get more interesting when they cross over into totally different subjects? Take this picture. The 1920s vehicle was not really meant to be the main point of interest. This was a bit of a naughty postcard meant to raise the eyebrows of its recipient. A century after it was made, it can now be found all over the internet under the ‘vintage glamour’ or risqué photography banners. You might equally find it if you were to search for stockings and suspenders, but we can assure you we were looking for nothing of the sort when it crossed our path!

Now, let’s just try to concentrate on the vehicle, shall we? It’s a Renault, certainly. One of the KZ models, perhaps? The registration number 790-E-14 suggests it hails from the department of Normandy. Is there anything else we’ve missed?

As a ‘thank you’ to you loyal readers who enjoy our articles and contribute regularly, we’ve thrown in a colourised version, too…

Not a Calvados registration number, issued in 1950, but a Parisian (Seine) number, early 1928, which fits for a Renault NN with a narrower bonnet. There are several pictures like this one, some much more suggestive!
