A 'French' Skoda mystery in Romania

George Nica, recently bought this sad 1937 Skoda. Looking for information on the internet he found that this must be a transition model between the 420 popular and 1100 ohv, built less than a year in 1937-1938. Probably in less than 1000 units. The car features 995cc with 65mm bore & 27HP and overhead valves.
He is hoping somebody has information regarding this rare model. An interesting detail is the serial number plate and owner handbook in french. Probably an export car?  Maybe someone has acces to the factory records and can provide us with a few more details about car #61131.

Hello ,
Thank you all for your comments.
I wrote to Mr. Josef Kubišta instructed me but received no answer yet.
Adrian , yes, it is the Skoda from Cluj, in '88 left Bucharest for Cluj , where it had a very long journey under the open sky .
Still looking for the 420OHV unit production, if anyone could help .

There is a record of cars build in factory museum ; the second half of 30s is well covered so I believe they should be able to assist with the genealogy of this car.

I think this is the Cluj Skoda... It actually looks surprisingly unmolested.

Most well-bred Romanians (and indeed Eastern Europeans) spoke French before the war. So the original owner of this car would alomost certainly have been familiar with the language. I assume Skoda didn't see fit to produce a manual in Romanian, so French would have been a logical choice for the first owner. That is, if it ws an original Romanian car and not brought over as a war trophy!

I found this site on the IMCDb databaseregarding the type 901 Rapid, but the comments which accompany it are interesting :

Interesting but challenging restoration. There is an excellent marque history available, written in two parts, 1895-1945 and 1945-2003, and published in 2004. It barely mentions this model and the interesting thing is that both the last 420 Popular and the first of the 1100 ohv models had separate headlights not faired into the wings like this one. Given the wealth of detail in the books above, I expect the factory records do survive, and would be worth seeking out. I would try emailing the Skoda archives at their museum as I feel sure they will be able to help.
