It takes a brave man to tame the 1918 AV Monocar! (check AV ) David Bloxam took on the challenge at the VSCC’s Lightcar and Edwardian section tour only to find that the hills surrounding Llandrindod Wells, where the rally and trial were based, were a bit too much for the two-cylindered cycle-car. Down to only one cylinder, Dave had to be towed by a Humber 9/28 (click) whose occupants’ navigational skills made him very cold and wet for two and a half hours in the Welsh outback. Dave has slowly dried out and he has not given up on the idea of using the AV again – but next time perhaps somewhere with fewer hills!
