Tomorrow, Saturday 25th February The VSCC celebrate 60 years of Pomeroy Trophy. A race designed to find the best road car with engine capacity over 1495 cc. Importantly the car must comply to the next regulations for being a tourer:
1. must have a roof
2. luggage capacity for 2 suitcases
3. the ability to carry a spare wheel.
This is why Dougal 'smokin tires' Cawley made minor coachwork adjustments to his well reputed Frazer Nash in order to be eligible. As you can see he took advise of the finest designers and coachbuilders of the British isles in order to present a touring car of standing. The work started early afternoon last Wednesday and was to be concluded before tea time. The handicap for competing cars is calculated by multiplying the age, engine capacity and then dividing it by the distance between the brake pedal and the rear axle. There are a series of tests:
1. Wiggle Woggle; skidding wildly between cones 2. Accelerating and braking test in a straight line 3. Standing start 250m sprint#
4. 250m flying start sprint 5. High speed reliability trial. Initial tests of the 'Piglet Saloon' are to be seen here.
