These photos are presumably all taken at some Royal Air Force base and looking at them we wondered why this group of people is posing on the truck with the two goggle-wearing women sitting on the bonnet? Could they be lady pilots? They sure look dressed that way. We shall probably never know as Nigel Hamlin-Wright, who found the pictures in his father’s house, has no idea where they came from. We can date the photos as being taken after April 1st 1918, because that’s when the RAF came into being. The trucks all seem to be Leyland from pre-WW I. They could be re-painted Royal Flying Corps equipment, although after WW I Leyland bought back many of these military vehicles for reconditioning and sold them for lots less than the price of a new truck. Perhaps someone can tell us about these ladies or put a better date on the pictures by identifying the planes? (photo were sent by Nigel Hamlin Wright)
