"This taxi is one of two known of, this is the only one in Europe the other one lives in the USA. Body by Cape and built by Avon of Stratfor. The car is currently been restored. It has sliding clamshell doors behind the driver, no side opening. They weren't liked by the taxi drivers and it never caught on. It is so rare no photographs exist of the interior. At least not that I know. But if someone has one, I would love to see them. Hope to have it ready for the London Vintage Taxi Association 40th Anniversary event this year and Goodwood revival."

Story and photographs sent in by a PreWarCar.com enthusiast.
Before the original London Vintage Taxi club was formed we had informal outings. One of these was to a country house near Dorking Surrey. In the garages were several Taxis in very poor condition including a Cape Cab. We were told that the design was for export to South Africa to be used in the Cape. The sliding door mechanism was no strong enough to hold the heavy sliding door and sometimes passengers were stuck in the back!
How many were repatriated I don't know or what happened to the Dorking one. Our LL survives to this day. BXK 124
