PWC meets a Rolls, Topolino and Lagonda

How easy is it to start an Edwardian Rolls Royce Silver Ghost? We can of course explain it in a text but a video is a bit easier and makes it probably more clear to you.

We are interested to know if you would like to see similar video's more often. Video's of interesting cars and their owners.
Please leave a comment and let us know.

I fully agree with Michael Schlenger. When I read the first words I thought, "Nice to see the starting procedure." And then - pressing the start bottom? What about installing a up-to-date Rolls Royce engine?

Yes please do post such videos from time to time. Comments can be discussed, and it is interesting to see some motion what we all are all about.
A very good idea, please do pursue it.

Well, of course I would love to watch more videos featuring outstanding prewar cars and their owners on this website.

However, I must admit I disliked the clowneske appearance and superficial talk of the two protagonists in the Rolls-Royce feature.

As for the car's starting procedure, Mr Peirson already pointed out that simply actuating an electrical starter which was fitted in modern times is not quite what you would expect with an Edwardian automobile.

I am pretty sure you can do better.

In 2017 I guess is merely getting in line with current developments, to show moving pictures. Only PreWarCar/PostWaeCar quality please and not earlier published video's

I think this is chassis 1605. A very handsome car. Richard demonstrates starting the car with an electric starter, which is certainly not original. I wish he had used the battery ignition, which produces a shower of sparks from a trembler coil like a Model T's, and can set the motor running if one of the cylinders has fuel mixture in it. My 1911 will start nine times out of ten in this way. The late Millard Newman would start his 1911 by cranking the engine over six compressions - using the crank handle - and then using the sparks to start the engine.

Also Richard suggests he could drive his 1911 to Istanbul and then change the oil. The Silver Ghost Association recommends considerably more maintenance on a daily basis, such as oiling the clutch and oiling the two universal joints. I would check the steering box and king pins too. I wonder what tyres he is planning to use. The Dunlop tyres are no longer available and the alternatives are not very good.
