Throwback Thursday: a few bites of 2011 Montlhéry.

One of the things we don't regret having done over the last fifteen years is taking up a cooperation with Vincent Chamon/Vintage Montlhéry. PreWarCar is supporting the event mediawise and with awards in various categories; like 'Spirit of the Event' which in 2011 was granted to the tandem seater Sénéchal in the main picture. In our humble view Vintage Montlhéry has developed into one of the best events of Europe. Their next inititative is Lantilly, the french version of the Festival of Slowth. It looks very promising with new all time records of yawn evoking speed. At Lantilly we will present a brand new award "Best of Slow".

( 'Throwback Thursday' is a series of looking back articles in view of 15 years PreWarCar-PostWarClassic. PreWarCar.com went online, the 1st July 2001)

Browsing the known webalbums you already can find nearly ten thousand pictures of last weekend's fabulous Vintage Revival meeting at Montlhéry. Flocks of Bugatti's, Amilcars, Salmsons, Talbots, Morgans, Bentley's and whatever that was sporty and fast in the twenties... Lombard, Bignan, BNC, Darmont, Sima Violet. More important than the numbers were the brilliant atmosphere and crazycontrating cars. We will present you a few snaps. The mighty 24 litre W-12 Napier Railton made his roaring come back to Montlhery where it once crashed. Never in a crash was this whispering pedal power Velocar. Slightly less friendly, this tyres and weazel eating Frazer Nash. More pleasing to the eye is the girl powered Bugatti. A very nicely reconstructed 1914 NSU racer had experienced a high speed patina treatment.

Montlhéry is no doubt the most important historic track alive in Europe. Thanks PreWar for helping to keep the flame alive. We must make shure the track is kept well, used and respected in all ways.

Was the word VINTAGE attached to this MONTLHERY event specifically to exclude the EPITOMINOUS product of world racing of the twenties, the PreWar "SILVER ARROWS" that raced there?
