Not entirely pre-war, but the competitors list for the VSCC’s Pomeroy trophy featured over thirty Pre-war vehicles up against the likes of 90’s Porsche 911s and 2007 Audi estates! The Pomeroy Trophy is open to all VSCC members’ road-legal cars. Pre-1931 and PVT cars must exceed 1495cc and younger cars must be over 1949cc. See how Tony Lees squeezes his recently acquired 1918 Vauxhall Viper between the Gordini and Triumph TR2 to line up for the competition. A handicap system based on the car’s age, distance from brake-pedal to rear axle and engine capacity makes it possible for vehicles of all ages to compete. Three short tests of handling, sprinting and breaking are followed by a high-speed, forty minute session on the Silverstone circuit which sees a bizarre mix of cars battling for the trophy, like Stanley Mann in his 1927 Bentley Le Mans, Mark Walker with the 1922 GN Thunderbug) and Nicholas Pellett driving the 1931 Talbot 105 Team car are doing. This year, having swapped to Dunlops, Patrick Blakeney-Edwards topped the board in his 1928 Frazer Nash Super Sports 1928 Frazer Nash Super Sports. Hurrah! A triumph for the old-car world.
