A Monday Moscow twin Mystery. (Upd. Argus or Lessner?)

Car journalist Ivan Barentsev sends these two images of unidentified omnibuses in Moscow. One from 1907 with all-rubber tyres and another from 1911-1914 with Russian "Prowodnik-Columb" pneumatics. But the make of either omnibus is unknown. Both are chaindrive giants with the typical Mercedes look-a-like radiator. Do we have an expert on Russian buses in the room?

Update: Ariejan Bos sends a picture of a 1907 Lessner Van which looks quite similar. Notice the front wings!

I would say Lessner too. If you compare the older bus with the 1908 Lessner van on p.68 of the book 'Russian Motor Vehicles' by Maurice Kelly, there is an obvious resemblance in many details.

Thank you for your answer.

Russian catalogue of Laurin & Klement cars from 1909 was the first source that I looked. There are no HO type but only FDO, FOF and DO type of omnibuses. Type H is mentioned as an engine for HL heavy trucks. You can see the pictures here http://narod.ru/disk/53351319001.99377de46e3183823dcaf3f23559a850/1909LKRussia.rar.html

Also you can comprare the bonnets and grills. They are not simular. L&K has short bonnet with high side so the grill is higher too. The omnibus on the photos has longer bonnet with low side.

My ideas are FIAT, Argus, Sheibler or Daimler. My be if it looks like Daimler grill omnibus can be Lessner (Russian licenced Daimler). You can see Lessner truck http://www.diecar.narod.ru/Russia/Lessner/Furgon.jpg which was made in St. Petersburg partly from german details in 1905.

Another marks are also possible. May be somebody knows about such omnibuses.

Kindly,
Ivan

Dear friends,

this is my reaction of your question to identification of the car. There are omnibuses, which was made in czech factory Laurin&Klement. The type is HO (type H, O as Omnibus) or type HL. The both were made 1907 - 1912. The factory Laurin&Klement had branch store in Peterburg from 1907. One third of the production was made for russian market.

It could be possibly another type - omnibus FDL type from 1909 also Laurin&Klement.

I am sorry that I miss this mark - Laurin&Klement on your web. Laurin&Klement was excelent factory in that times. Laurin&Klement had branch stores in all world, for example in Japan. Laurin&Klement won all important and hard races in middle Europe till IWW, also races in Alps.

If you are interested, I could provide more information.

With best regards
Jiri Schwarz
