Except for the experts on French makes a few of us will know the name Brouhot. Founded in 1896, the company produced mostly chain-driven cars until 1910. Their main claim to “fame” was the participation in the disastrous Paris to Madrid race of 1903, in which driver Tourand lost control of his Brouhot near Angoulême and killed his mechanic and six spectators. The race was later stopped at Bordeaux after many other horrendous accidents. There are not many Brouhat’s around anymore and consequently not many will come on the market. So, if you ever fancied one, this is your chance. Artcurial, the Paris-based auction house, has one in their sale on February 9. In the early 1960s this 1904 racing two-seater with pointed tail and black leather bucket seats was bought by Henry de Kilmaine who drove it in numerous historic events such as London to Brighton and the Rally Paris-Andorra-Palma de Mallorca.
