Just before the WW II an attractive, but expensive sports car arrived on the market. Called the Atalanta, it had a tubular chassis and independent suspension on all wheels. When introduced in 1937 there was a choice between a 1 1/2 and a 2-litre four-cylinder engine and from 1938 it could be fitted with the American V12 Lincoln-Zephyr powerplant. No more than 20 Atalanta’s were made and not many survived today. Due to its excellent road holding some have been converted into specials, like the one that will be sold by Coys at their True Greats auction on December 1st. Lot 438 is a 1938 single-seater that still has some of its original bodywork including the rare Atalanta badge and a dismantled Lincoln-Zephyr V12. But there’s more… lot 437 is a ca. 1937 Atalanta sports racer that also comes with an almost complete V12. You chose… one Atalanta or maybe both? Think of the fun you will have! (photos courtesy Coys)
