Is it an Ansaldo or a Mystery?

Leonhard Thomas sends this photo of a fine vintage  roadster; with dickey seat?
Leonhard adds: "On the reverse of the photo is written ' note the difference  in complexion of the 'southerner ' and the 'northerner ' ! I do hope you can ID this vehicle.  I think Ansaldo. "

Well Leonhard, let's see what our highly knowledgeable visitors have to say in this matter. Regarding differences between passenger and driver. They have different complexion, and a different style of clothing. Yet both fight with the low sun, be it with a different neck turning technique.

Owning a Fiat Tipo 509 (my very first car in my collection) this is a 509. And it is definitely a Fiat, they had these cast aluminum pillars supporting the windshield support pillar and a door.

It's a Fiat 509 ( possibly an A model ) with a Spyder body. I am currently re building a fiat 509 a 1928, and it is identical to the car in the picture. There is indeed a dicky seat on the rear.

Fiat 509. It's too small for an Ansaldo or a 503 in my opinion.

I would put my money on Fiat 509. The front brake drums are too small for 503 and the size of the occupants is too great for a medium sized car. Ansaldos (in Australia at least) had wire or wooden wheels and this car has steel Sankeys as a 509 did have.

Fiat 503. Ansaldo had sloping bonnet louvres although similar radiator shape and wheels.

Could it be a FIAT, perhaps a 514 or a 503 ?

Well, I'd say it's just another Fiat 503 or 509 from the 1920s. This model was quite popular in many countries back then.

For comparison please refer to the picture in my recent online article (in German):

If you require an English translation of this article, I'll be happy to provide one.
