Mysterious but seriously good looking

Weetwhoo weetwhoo (whistle), look at these guys. Who does not want five of these handsome mechanics working on their car?! One of them is definitely ready for the summer…

This photograph was taken in Celje (Slovenia) shortly after the end of the WW2. The pre-war car has a 4 cylinder engine. With 12 valves? Looking at the body we think it might be a BMW 328. Do you think we are correct, or is it something else?

Please comment below if you can tell us more about the mysterious sports car in the photograph.

For certain it is NOT a BMW. wrong bulkhead/scuttle, wrong engine, wrong windscreen, wrong wheels etc!

Nice pictures, Mike! They show a Wanderer W25 K with convertible body by Baur, which was produced in slightly larger numbers than the roadster version (140 instead of 104).

Another version with a unique body partly inspired by the legendary Auto Union race cars still exists:

Wanderer seen on the Circuit des Ardennes in 2011. Similar but slightly less sporting cabriolet bodywork. here is the other side of the engine!

Well, obviously not only BMW, also other German manufacturers like Wanderer knew how to build dashing roadsters like the one in the picture. This Wanderer 25K featured a straight six engine producing 85 h.p. which enabled the car to reach a top speed of 145 km/h. Only a few more than 100 of these highly elegant and prestigious cars were manufactured with roadster body by Baur of Stuttgart. Attached is a contemporary postcard from my collection showing one of these beauties in perfect shape, enjoy!

Certainly not a 328, the wheels, the windscreen and the engine configuration are all wrong.

Looking at the body style, I agree that the car is probably a BMW 328 of 1936-39 vintage.
However it is not a 4 cylinder engine as mentioned but a 6 cylinder with the common 4 exhaust ports
and therefore a conventional 2 valves per cylinder - in keeping with the 328.
It is obviously that the car would soon be running again as "many hands make light work", or maybe not, as a beloved uncle's
philosophy was "One boy is a boy, two boys is half a boy and three boys is no bloody boy at all". What then is five???

It's a nice theory, except that a 328 has 6 exhaust ports. The car in the picture is a 4 cylinder Wanderer -the details of the door mouldings and the scuttle confirm.

Hello,
As far as I know, the prewar BMW 328 had a straight six cylinder engine....

For sure, it is Wanderer W25K which means that most amazing thing we cant see in this picture must be on the other side of engine - The Kompressor!

1936-39 Wanderer W 25 K, less sporty than the BMW 328 eventhough it was equipped with a blower. Engine based on a Ferdinad Porsche design.
